A human-centred way to evaluate business systems
With the 5minRecess Newsletter, our promise is simple: Take a weekly 5-minute(ish) break from the usual business noise and get human-first insights that support community-driven missions.
We share practical, repeatable, and people-centered systems for branding, marketing, operations, and leadership. But not every system hits the same way. Some make a big splash. Some are easy to try. Some hold up over the long run.
That’s why we created The Recess Tally — a quick way to assess each system by the values that matter most to us (and to you).
Here’s how we tally it →
We assess the featured strategy across three dimensions — Impact, Play, and Sustainability. We rate each out of 10 at 0.25 increments and then weigh them based on their ability to help you and your team grow without burning out:
Impact (50%)
Does this move people and matter?
1 = Minimal influence, mostly cosmetic
10 = Deeply shifts trust, clarity, or connection
Play (20%)
How easy or fun is it to put in place?
1 = Complex, requires major effort to adopt
10 = Simple, can test or try today
Sustainability (30%)
Will it last without burnout?
1 = Hard to maintain, high energy drain
10 = Flexible, long-term fit that strengthens with time
The Recess Tally shares our opinion and experience with each strategy and system. While subjective, we strive to ground every score in real-world usability by examining how a system builds trust, is fun and practical to try, and holds up without overwhelming teams.
